Configuring A Network Bridge for the XBox 360

Found this awesome guide on how to configure a network bridge between your PC & 360. Credit to BimmerGeek for the following detailed information.
As I wrote the other day, I figured out a way to use my laptop as a wireless “adapter” for the XBox 360. The advantage of this is that allows me to wirelessly connect the XBox 360 to the net without paying $99 for the Microsoft wireless adapter. I thought some people might be interested in the details because I noticed on my blog metrics that two people hit the previous article with a Google search. All I did in the previous post was to say I did it. This post describes how I did it.
I chose a bridge over Internet Connection Sharing because the bridge’s use is specific to connecting different types of network adapters together; and because we have a wireless network already, so there is no functional need for the ICS solution. Plus, I’ve never used a bridged connection before, so it gave me something to learn.
Here’s what you do:
Step 1
Select Control Panel/Network Connections and while hovering over Network Connections, right click and choose Open. This will open a panel that should list your network connections.
This image shows all my existing network connections. Yours may not have the same adapters. The two adapters that matter are your wireless adapter and your Ethernet adapter. They will have different names than mine because I have renamed them from their default values. I have highlighted the two adapters in the graphic below.
Step 2
If you have both Ethernet and wireless adapters (and you must in order for this to work), then both of them will be listed in the Network Connections panel. Using the ctrl-click selection method or the drag-area method, select both adapters.
Step 3
Right-click one of the adapters and select the Bridge Connections option.
Step 4
You will see a notification that the bridge is being built. This may take a few moments.
Step 5
Once the bridge is complete, you will see the bridge icon and the network adapters as shown below:
Step 6
The bridge is only partially complete at this point. To complete the configuration, you need to relate the network adapters to the bridge. I’m not exactly sure why this is because you have to select the adapters to create the bridge in the first place. This is my first bridge, so it’s possible there is a better way of doing it. But this process has worked for me. If you know of a more concise way of configuring the bridge, let me know and I’ll update the process.
In any case, select the bridge, right-click and select Properties:
Step 7
In the Properties dialog, put check marks in the network adapters that you want to bridge. Make sure you select the wireless and Ethernet adapters.
Step 8
Now, the bridge is complete. It will take a few moments for your laptop to finish the configuration, get a new DHCP lease and complete the connections.
To verify if your bridge works, connect the XBox 360 to your laptop’s Ethernet port and connect with XBox Live.

how do you disconnect all this stuff to turn your laptop back to normal
jus do what he said but backwards
can u tell me step by step
on how to take off the network bridge so your laptop is back to normal
How to delete a network bridge.
Step 1 – go to Settings – Network Connections (the bridge should be displayed there)
Step 2 – right click on the bridge and one of the choices should allow you to delete it.
Thanks wow i was using ICS an it started out open an then the next time i turned on the xbox it was moderate then the 3rd timeit was strict this fixed that prob.. :)
Have you noticed any drops? I’m using a vista wireless, and my connection often drops. I’m going to redo my bridge to see if that corrects the problem, just wondering if others had the same problem.
Yes, Make sure your laptop is set to not sleep or hibernate, or anything while connected to the xbox, you can change the option in control panel > Power Options
Yes I use Vista on my Gateway notebook and it often drops. I notice that both the LAN and bridge are constantly saying “identifying”…god I am so fed up.
I am having the same problem as Wade and Scott except on Windows XP. My connection drops very very often and when I go into my PC it says that the Wireless OR LAN connection has been dropped (has the red X). The way I get it to start working again is by simply right clicking on the whichever connection has the red X and going to properties and when the properties window comes up I just hit OK (or cancel or whatever) and the status will go back to “connected.”
Also, I have noticed that even thought the wireless connection SHOULD auto connect to my wifi, it wont!
ARGH! This was such a good solution to the “moderate” security problem. Why can’t this stuff just work like it’s supposed to!
[...] is very well explained here. I have nothing more to add to it. If you have any questions or concerns you can ask me here. [...]
Tried this and xbox nat is open!!! thanks a lot
I’ve tried everything but this doesn’t seem to work for me. When I bridge the connections, for some reason my internet wont work on the laptop. I connect my ps3 to the laptop and it doesn’t work. Now today I did this on my friends pc and it worked. But for some reason it dont work for me. I wonder what I’m doing wrong…
I had the same problem take a look at Microsoft KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/302348/en-us
Does someone know when I am alive for Xbox360 will be released?
No specific date, but probably late this year.
I’ve done this and once I plug the XBOX to the laptop ethenet port I have a IP conflict is there a way to resolve this?
ya, theres 2 ways
the first way is to go to xbox network settings and go on configure network, then click on the IP box and click manual, then go back and go to additional settings. Then go back to the ip box and click auto. then go back to additional settings and then go back and test again. It worked for me
the second way is to manually enter it. go to command prompt and type in ipconfig enter the numbers you see for IPv4, subnet mask and gateway
im really having trouble with this. It keeps saying identifying and the xbox wont pick it. please email me at rammsteinisawesome@hotmail.com please anyone to help me. it looks like no one is replying to this site anymore
Once again we have a Windows/Mac competition. I am running both Windows XP and OSX Leopard on my Mac (it was given to me by my college, dont hurt me) I found ways that this should work for both, so I will see which works better, if either of them work at all…
Lol, guys turn off your firewall.
That’s the MAJOR PROBLEM.
Then connect the xbox to laptop with the bridge :)
Hi, it does not work for me. But, I found the solution, conect xbox 360 with a crossover wire to my laptop vista 64 bits, my laptop wireless with a 2wire modem/router. Then, in my network, I can see both network adapters, right click to wireless conection, properties, and share, click on share conection, I do not need a bridge, thats works for me.
Alright, I had similar problems to everyone on here. I got it to work, more or less, I still have problems occasionally, as in it sometimes has trouble connecting, but I can get online. Because it was telling me I had an IP address conflict on the network whenever I tried to let the XBox get its IP address manually, I figured I would just assign one myself.
Step 1:
Open a command prompt on the computer you are using to bridge the connection. (Start -> run ->type cmd, then hit enter)
Step 2:
type in: ipconfig -all
this will display the computers IP info as assigned by the network.
step 3.
look at the IP address it will be xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
for the first set of numbers (there can be less than 3 digits in each set, perhaps along the lines of 192.168.1.152) use the same thing, for this example I would use 192.168.1.xxx for the xxx simply replace it with a different number (make it close to that one)
step 4
it is also going to ask for your gateway and your subnet mask, make them the same as what it displays for your computer.
That worked for me (again, kind of, sometimes I can’t sign in, but then when I go to check internet connection, it is able to reconnect for some reason)
I got the bridge connected and XB Live is working, but not very well. After about 5 minutes, it will say “Connection to server reset.” “Game Lobby Closed” Why would it work and then reset itself? I turned Windows Firewall. In the Network Connections folder, it says “A network cable is unplugged.” with a Red X, although it’s obviously not. It works but then resets itself. How can I get continuous play going with getting continuously disconnected?
i can connect to the bridged network with my xbox but it says i donot get internet connection, whats the deal?>

i have tried to change my ip manuall for example if mine was like 192.168.1.74 what can be a good example to change it too i was able to create the bridge properly however still there is a ip conflict if u can help me change the ip it should work right?
You don’t need to do this, just select ur wireless connection, go to properties, advanced and check the 1st box.
Then reapir ur connection and connect. ;)
thanks a bunch the bridge worked and im on windows 7 couldntbeleive how simple it was i always wonder what that bridging does now i know thanks!!
[...] This should work! __________________ [...]
I have windows 7 and it didn’t work. I entered the network stuff manually and it didn’t work. Even when it was on automatic it didn’t work. If there is anything else that is needed please tell me. My msn is surajgood@hotmail.com. My email is magicspell1234@gmail.com
Hot diggity! I followed all you steps on my Spanish XP laptop and lo and behold it worked! thankyouthankyouthankyou :D
Here is how to fix the problem
1) open command prompt
2) type netsh
3) type bridge show adapter
4) type bridge set adapter 1 forcecompatmode=enable
5) type bridge show adapter command again to verify that the ForceCompatabilityMode field for the NIC is displayed as Enabled.
You should be good now.
On my Windows VISTA I set up a bridge connection for my Xbox LIVE and it worked. However, when I connected it said my NAT configuration type was MODERATE. How do I access, from Windows VISTA, the NAT type and how do I change it to OPEN?
This worked thanks. I think if you just keep everything auto it will work fine
I only have Local Area Connection in my Network Connections
I don’t know why but I had to go into the Network Bridge properties and change ‘Auto Crossover Detection’ to enabled.
Worked immediately there-after, silly Microsoft.
