June 2008 Video Game and System Sales
NPD Group recently released sales figures for video games and system hardware sales for June 2008. According to their report industry sales totaled $1.69 billion for the month, (+50% compared to the $1.1 billion June 2007). Total hardware sales brought in $615.1 million (+54% over June 2007) while total software sales made $872.6 million (+61% over June 2007).
Here are details of June 2008 sales of video game system hardware:
- Nintendo DS: 783,000 systems sold (+73% increase over May 2008)
- Nintendo Wii: 666,000 systems sold (-1.26% decrease from May 2008)
- PlayStation 3: 405,000 systems sold (+94.06% increase over May 2008)
- PlayStation Portable: 337,000 systems sold (+74.9% increase over May 2008)
- Xbox 360: 220,000 systems sold (+17.9% increase over May 2008)
- PlayStation 2: 188,000 systems sold (+41.7% increase over May 2008)
The top 10 selling games in June (based on unit sales and including collector’s editions, bundles, etc.) were as follows:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – PS3 — Konami — 774,600 copies sold
- Guitar Hero On Tour — DS — Activision — 422,300 copies sold
- Ninja Gaiden II — 360 — Microsoft — 372,700 copies sold
- Wii Fit (w/ balance board) – Wii — Nintendo — 372,700 copies sold
- Wii Play (w/ remote) — Wii — Nintendo — 359,100 copies sold
- Battlefield: Bad Company – 360 — Electronic Arts — 346,800 copies sold
- Mario Kart Wii (w/ Wii wheel) – Wii — Nintendo — 322,400
- Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure – Wii — LucasArts — 294,500 copies sold
- Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure – DS — LucasArts — 267,800 copies sold
