D&D Online gets a new update, a European Guild takes down Kil’Jaeden, and Age of Conan gets a pornographic interpretation and more in this weeks report covering the goings on in the massive multiplayer online universe.

Mirror’s Edge

DICE presented their latest project Mirror’s Edge which will be available on PC, PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360 by years end.

“At this time, we are not revealing anything more than the fact that we are changing the way that players are able to move in first person,” said a representative for DICE.

“No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first-person game.”

“This is a game currently in development at DICE. EA has not formally announced the game but we are excited by the innovation being demonstrated by the team and are looking forward to seeing a real evolution in the first-person genre,” said Electronic Arts.

“[It] gives an indication of the kind of high quality development that is being nurtured by EA not only in Sweden but across the globe.”

Alone in the Dark 5: Tech Demo

From developer Eden Games the following two tech demonstrations - the first shows the inventory system and how items and environmental objects can be manipulated, as well as how items may be used together. The second tech demo shows the realistic use of fire with various objects in the game. It also shows how objects are affected when shot.

Top Gear the BF2 parody

I know this isn’t new but I really enjoyed this excellent machinima parody of the BBC series “Top Gear” made using the Battlefield 2 engine by XaliaS Designs and SIR Community. Watch this reenactment of a Challenger 2 tank hunting a SUV (the vehicle was actually a Range Rover Sport in the original Top Gear airing) that tries to escape through a forest. Enjoy!

RollerCoaster Tycoon massacre

I am happy to report that nobody was injured in the making of this video.

Spore: developers share details

Spore (PC/Mac/DS/mobile platform) due September 7 from EA
With Spore set to take fire on PC’s & Macs this September 7th, and scaled back versions of the game also being released for Nintendo DS & mobile platforms there has been relatively little information regarding gameplay and online aspect of the game.

A grandiose simulation of every stage of life, from the primordial soup to space exploration is how Wired.com’s Chris Kohler described Spore in his extensive first look at the latest version of the game.

The following video interview features designer Will Wright & EA producer Caryl Shaw describing the massive online scope of this massively single player game. Huh? Watch the video and you will understand.

Still Alive

available for your PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360photo by Dale May

I wanted to share one of the catchiest, cutest songs I have heard in awhile, and it happens to play during the ending/credits to Portal (part of Half-Life 2’s Orange Box) entitled the “Still Alive” song.

‘Still Alive’ sung by Ellen McLain (voice of GLaDOS and the turrets) with music by Jonathan Coulton.

CoD4 training course completed in 13.1 seconds - plus how to do it yourself

Mastrmind made the following video documenting his amazing 13.1 second run through F.N.G. playing Call of Duty 4. Not only does this kid show off his impressive speed run, he takes time to break down the all the details each step of the way, offering tips and pointers that should help shave off quite a few seconds off most gamers currently posted completion time.

While watching this video tutorial notice the number of bullet holes that are in the walls - and for firing so few shots, it obviously took REPEATED tries to record a full 2 second faster time than the games developer Infinity Ward’s recorded best. Watch and learn soldiers.
